Introduction:

Welcome to Season 2 of the AOR Super Formula Championship! AOR has been successfully running leagues on iRacing since 2015. Starting with the Pro Mazda, the Formula Renault 2.0, the FR3.5, F3 and most recently the F4. At the same time we also ran leagues on the GTE cars for many seasons. Some of these leagues have last for multiple seasons due to a strong driver base, especially the FR2.0 which last for 13 seasons.

In Season 1 of this league we had over 50 drivers sign up, we hope you'll join us.

If you have signed up, make sure to join the league on iRacing also so you can join the sessions!

Also make sure to join the AOR discord server here

When will the season start? The first race of this season will run in the fifth week of the 2024 S1 iRacing season. The race calendar follows the official iRacing schedule.

What are the entry requirements? You will need to have a licence class of D Class 4.00 or above. You are also expected to be active on the AOR Discord server in order to receive the latest updates. If you are completely new to AOR, we will check to see if you are suitable for the league, which will be dependent on having done a sufficient amount of racing and running in the car at a reasonable pace.

How do I register as part of a team? In the initial sign up phase you will select whether you will be a Privateer of as part of a team. If you select the team option, you will need to go the discord channel called 'team-sign-up'. Simply state your team preferences in that channel - the name of your team and name of the driver you're teaming up with. There will be a maximum of 2 drivers per team at any one time. Drivers can be changed during the season but this will need to be authorised by the League Coordinators.

How many spaces are available? There will be a maximum of 36 spaces, with a reserve list (maximum of 10 at one time). If all of the spaces have been allocated, the sign-up thread will be closed until a seat has been vacated.

What happens if I'm on the reserve list? All drivers on the reserve list will be approached every week by the League Coordinators who will offer you a seat in place of an absent driver. Please keep active on the discord in order to receive these alerts and accept any potential invites. All reserve drivers will be tagged at the same time, so spots will be given on a first come, first serve basis.

Can I participate in a 'one off' race? We will not be accepting one-off 'wildcard' entries for drivers who wish to dip their toe in the water. It's recommended that you get to know the car in the official iRacing series before committing to the league. Once you sign up, you are expected to participate across all race nights.

How is the Championship structured? The Championship consists of 8 race nights, with a sprint/feature race night format.

What about drop weeks?
There will be no drop weeks this season due to the shortened season.

Are setups permitted? The Championship will be allowing open setups.

What is the points system? Points are awarded to the top 25 finishers in the Feature Race, and the top 16 in the Sprint Race. In addition to the normal points system for finishing positions, 1 additional point is handed out for pole position and fastest lap. Full details on points scoring can be found in the rules section

Are there any recommended files to download? If you wish to create your own team livery you can find the Super Formula SF-23 under the "Paint" section of the iRacing website. Trading Paints is recommended to upload and show off your livery on race nights as well as making the rest of the grid look suited and booted!

Will there be any coverage of the races? Our races will be broadcast on our official YT channel

Will there be any prizes? There will be prizes, however these are subject to if the season finishes with a reasonable amount of drivers. These are as follows

Champion: $20 iRacing Credits
2nd place: $10 iRacing Credits
3rd place; $5 iRacing Credits

  • 1.1 1.3
    • 1.2 On-track conduct
      • It should go without saying that you should behave in exactly the same way as you would do in an Official iRacing session - therefore, your conduct will still be in line with the iRacing Sporting Code and Regulations (members can find the code here). Failure to do so may result in expulsion from the league.

In short, clean racing is what it's about. Leave room for cars around you and don't make overly aggressive moves to overtake or defend. Especially in fragile open wheelers - contact with other cars should be avoided at all costs.

        Additional note - blue flags:
The rules concerning blue flags will be slightly different to how they are in the official series. Blue flags will be a mandatory rule that must be followed. Once shown a blue flag, the driver in question must be ready to let the faster car behind past. Once the car following gets within 0.5 seconds of the blue flagged car ahead, the car with blue flags must allow the car behind past safely at the earliest opportunity, without blocking them.

Additional note - track limits on straights:
The rules concerning track limits will be slightly different to how they are in the official series. On straights, it will be mandatory to stay within the white lines at all times, and using the additional tarmac/asphalt on the straights in order to defend or attack will be illegal. The most notable example of an area that could be exploited is the start/finish straight at Monza.

Additional rule - extreme off track penalties
Drivers of course do generally take advantage of incident points to maybe gain half a tenth here and there, there's not getting away from this and trying to stop it. However there are certain corners at certain tracks where you can go massively wide to then gain momentum for the next corner, get a massive run and make a direct overtake from this. These are not allowed. For example you can perfect going wide at Spoon corner at Suzuka, get a run towards 130R and make the overtake. Doing moves like this will result in penalties.

    • 2.1 Championships / Race Classification
      • Everybody will be participating in the Drivers Championship, with the driver with the most points being declared the Champion.

Drivers can also team up and take part in the Team Championship. If a driver scores points then this will be added on to their team's score. The team with the highest points is the Teams Champion.

Drivers who finish within 90% of the race distance will be classified and eligible to score full Championship points. Drivers that are classified within 75% race distance are eligible to score half points.

    • 3.1 Team Rules
      • Team Rules:
Upon registering, drivers can elect to race as part of a team or run as a 'Privateer' entry. This must be specified as part of their registration. Teams that register with only one driver are still eligible to score points in the Team Standings.

There can only be a maximum of two drivers per team entry at any one time. Reserve drivers are permitted to run in a team providing they are one of the two nominated drivers. If a team has changed their driver line-up then they must inform the iRacing Coordinators.

In the event of more than two drivers wishing to represent a team, drivers are encouraged to form 'B' or second teams if they wish to score points in the Team Standings.

    • 4.1 Race sessions
      • Race sessions will be based on the following format this season:
        Sprint race
1hr 30 minute Practice begins 18:25 UK time (BST)
5 minute One shot Qualifying begins 20:00
20 minute Sprint race begins 20:07
        Feature race
10 minute Practice begins 20:35 UK time
        10 minute Qualifying begins 20:45
40 minute Race begins 20:57 (inc grid time) (Mandatory stop for tyres) (1 fast repair)

    • 4.2 Weather / Track Conditions
      • Weather setting are as follows
Set Weather - Generate Weather: Enabled
        Dynamic Sky: Enabled
Time of Day: As per official season

Starting track state will be automatically generated, which usually ends up as Moderately Low Usage.

There will be one mandatory pit-stop for tyres in the feature races and the main races. The sprint races will have no mandatory pit-stop for tyres.

    • 4.3 Incidents
      • Feature Races:
If 15 incidents are reached, you will be made to serve a drive through penalty.
If 21 incidents are reached, you will be disqualified.

        Sprint Races:

If 13 incidents are reached, you will be automatically disqualified.

While there are no rules against having fun with your car after the race has finished, getting incident points even after crossing the line while the race is still going on is not advised.

    • 4.4 Setups
      • The series will allow open setups

    • 5.1
      • You should sign up to the league with the intention of participating in every single race. However, circumstances may prevent you from making some races, in which case it's very important to follow the following procedure:

If you are unable to attend a race, you have to give notice for your absence 1 hour before the event session starts (Friday 17:30 UK time). This is done by signing out on the website calendar page. It's your responsibility to make sure this is done. The reason this notice period is 1 hour is so the coordinators have enough time to let any reserves know there is space to drive.

If you do not do this as a main driver, you will have been declared as an uninformed no-show and given a reprimand. 3 no-show reprimands and you will be removed from the league and not be allowed to be a main driver the following season. You will have to prove your reliability through reserve driver status in that season.

Drivers who need to leave between the feature race and the sprint race must also give a valid reason to the coordinators.

      • 5.1.1

If you have to pull out of the league, you must let the iRacing Team know. If you leave by simply not showing up for the races, you will be placed on the blacklist and not be allowed back into the Championship in the future. The same goes for reserve drivers who are inactive for a long period of time without giving a reason.

If you are removed from the league, you will be placed on the blacklist. You could also be placed on the blacklist for leaving the league without notice or without a proper reason. Drivers who are placed on the blacklist are generally not allowed back into the Championship, except in exceptional circumstances.

In some cases, drivers may be given a second chance if the admins deem there is a reason to believe the driver has changed for the better. However, this will usually come with stricter conditions, and getting removed for a second time will mean permanent exclusion from the leagues, no exceptions.

    • 6.1 General
      • Drivers can call for an investigation into an incident if they feel another driver has broken the racing etiquette rules. This can range from causing a collision to over-aggressive driving.

It is important for those creating an investigation to give as much detail as possible - what lap did the incident take place? Who were the drivers involved etc?

Stewards enquiries can be made here, (as long as the results have been posted) and must be posted within 24 hours of the race having taken place.

    • 6.2 Stewards Panel Incidents
      • Stewards panel incidents:

From the start of the season, stewards will not pro-actively look into any notable incidents that are caused on Lap 1, unless the stewards deem Lap 1 incidents are happening too often, or it involves the same drivers.

        For all incidents, potential stewards penalties include;
a warning for actions that are deemed to have the potential to cause an incident but in this instance did not,
a time penalty being applied to the driver's race time, (0-30 secs) & (1-3 points)
a qualifying ban for the next race they attend in place of a time penalty as the accused driver DNFd from that race (1-3 points)
a forced pit-lane start for the next race they attend (3 points)
a disqualification from the race results, (3-4 points)
        a race ban (4 points)
or in rare cases a temporary or permanent ban from the Championship - depending on the severity and volume of the driver's indiscretion.

    • 6.3 Penalty points system
      • The Penalty Point System allows for additional discipline of drivers who consistently break driving etiquette throughout seasons. This is to ensure drivers feel inclined to maintain a respectful driving standard.
Penalty points can be handed out alongside one of the penalties listed in 6.2

For example common penalties may include but are not limited to
Driver X is given a 10 second time penalty & 2 penalty points for causing a collision. These are the reasons etc.

    • 6.4 Driver Licenses and penalty thresholds
      • All drivers will have a penalty points limit of 12 on their license, at which point their position in the league will be put under review. On the way there though there will be certain thresholds, which if met will result in penalties. These are as follows

4 points - qualifying ban for the next race they attend
7 points - pit-lane start for both races on the night
9 points - ban from both races on the night
12 points - position in the league put under review and is likely to lead to expulsion
